The Council for Research and Advancement in Technology and Science (CREATES) committee from the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) visited the Herbal Research Group Laboratory (HRGL) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on the 25th of January, 2023 (Wednesday). Present at the visit were Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, the Permanent Secretary at MTIC, and other STI officers and CREATES representatives from MTIC.
The visit to the HRGL was headed by Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Associate Professor Dr. Abby Tan Chee Hong, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research) of UBD and Dk. Dr. Nurolaini Pg Haji Muhd Kifli, Senior Assistant Professor at PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, UBD and Principal Investigator for a CREATES-funded herbal research project, “Bio-prospective of Local Plants as Potential Anticancer Bioactive-Derived Compounds for Future Development of Halal Natural Products in Brunei Darussalam”.
During the tour at the HRGL, the facilities and workflow of the laboratories that will be utilised for the herbal research project were showcased and elaborated by Dk. Dr. Nurolaini Pg Haji Muhd Kifli. In addition to the HRGL, the distinguished guests also visited other laboratories that have received funding support from CREATES, including the Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences (CAMES) and PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences
Following the visits, a conference was held where the funding guidelines, project details, including key deliverables, challenges and recommendations, were presented and discussed by Yang Mulia Ir. Awang Haji Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof, representatives of CREATES and fellow principal investigators of the various approved CREATES projects.
